About The Founder

The Carry Wisely Firearm Academy was founded by Navy veteran Trevor Mardis, to help people make good choices with regard to firearms.

Trevor’s interest in firearms began as a youth in New York City. Though none of his family owned firearms the presentation of guns in movies, literature, and the study of history fed the interest. Trevor enlisted in the Navy immediately after graduating from Brooklyn Technical High School and his formal firearms education was soon underway.

The Navy offered him the ability to handle small individual firearms such as the 1911 and M9 pistols, long guns such as the Remington 870 shotgun and the M14 rifle, along with crew-served systems such as the M60 and M2 .50 Calibre machine guns during his service aboard a guided missile cruiser.

Serving as a member of on-board armed response teams and on the VBSS team that trained to board suspicious boats in hostile waters further augmented Trevor’s understanding of the gravity of firearms; the education dispelled many of the misconceptions that Hollywood, novels, and comic books instilled, and that reality-based education has continued since the military.

Trevor is a certified firearms instructor through the California Department of Justice, Bureau of Firearms, and is in the process of renewing his license as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). He is a dedicated family man who enjoys hiking, swimming, and yoga. In addition to his enthusiasm for shooting sports and the proper handling of firearms, Trevor is a practitioner of Brasilian Jiu Jitsu among other martial disciplines.

Trevor began offering formal firearms instruction in 2014 and intends to continue helping people make good choices by offering guidance in the safe, lawful, and effective integration of firearms.
